A sample extract from the resource:
*Outdoor Maths Hunt (KS1 and KS2) – Take the children outside with clipboards and measuring tools to complete a maths scavenger hunt around the school grounds. KS1 children could count natural objects, create repeating patterns with leaves and sticks, or compare lengths and heights using everyday language. KS2 children could measure perimeter and area using playground markings, estimate and record angles, or collect data to create tally charts and graphs back in class. Provide visual prompts, practical equipment and mixed-ability partner work to support all learners and encourage mathematical discussion in a real-life context.
*Storytelling in Nature (KS1 and KS2) – Use the outdoor environment as inspiration for speaking, listening and creative writing activities. Encourage children to sit quietly and listen to the sounds around them before collecting descriptive vocabulary linked to sight, sound, touch and smell. KS1 children could orally retell a simple story using natural objects as props, while KS2 children could plan and write setting descriptions, poems or adventure openings inspired by the outdoor space. Support all learners by providing word banks, sentence starters, visual prompts and opportunities for paired discussion before writing.
